Bluesky is a new social network alternative to Twitter and Mastodon. Here's an overview of how it works, what the mobile app and web experience is like, how invite codes work, and how it compares to other federated (decentralized) options. 00:00 What is Bluesky social? 00:31 Quick tour of what the Bluesky app and interface look like 01:59 Comparing Bluesky to Twitter and Mastodon 02:30 Why many people found Mastodon confusing 03:34 Does Bluesky have a web version? 04:40 How to use a custom domain name as your username on Bluesky 05:23 How do you get an invite code for Bluesky? https://justinjackson.ca/bluesky Apparently, Bluesky's waitlist has over 1 million+ people on it. The team is slowly rolling out invites to 1,000 people per week. Contrary to popular belief, this isn't to create FOMO or drive interest. The quickest way to get an invite is to find an individual user with invite codes. Each user gets one invite code for every two weeks they're on the app. Join the Bluesky waiting list: https://bsky.app/ If you're on Bluesky, check out their web app: https://staging.bsky.app/ If you're a bootstrapper or indie hacker, here's a list of people to follow: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Tz5ihnzD5t6-o_8SZFn3WFqLS-PVLDYClJnbCcq75Hk/edit#gid= 1729812026 ★ More about me: ★ I founded https://transistor.fm (a podcast hosting and analytics platform) with Jon Buda.
