There is great potential for Qatif as it resides in a very strategic location, whether in Saudi Arabia or in the Arabian Gulf. Qatif has a rich heritage as it is one of the oldest settlements in Eastern Arabia. It was known by other names, such as Al-Khatt, with archaeological evidence of a settlement that dates back to 3500 BC. Literature plays a very important role in the everyday life of Qatif. The public library owns more than 20,000 book titles. And Qatif has more than 40 personal libraries showcasing up to 13,000 books. Qatif is also known for having its own publishing houses which disperse knowledge and literature across the country. Literary works of famous local authors have been translated into many languages including but not limited to English, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, and Chinese. Along with the cultural bridge that Qatif built to connect with the world, the city has branched locally as one of the most diverse communities in Saudi Arabia, with a population density parallel to literary activity that contributes to the creative output.
